How OzIncidents handles site requests, map services, contact emails and planned analytics.

Who operates this service

OzIncidents is operated by independent developers. Contact [email protected] about this page or the handling of your personal information.

Browsing and searching

You can browse the public site without creating an account. Requests to the site necessarily include technical information such as an IP address, browser information, requested URL and request time. Site infrastructure may process this information to deliver pages, diagnose errors and protect the service.

Search terms and filters appear in URLs and are sent to our server. They may also appear in browser history, shared links or request logs. Please do not enter sensitive personal information into incident searches. The current interface does not request your device’s precise geolocation.

Map services and external links

Interactive maps load map tiles directly from OpenStreetMap services. These requests disclose technical request information, including your IP address and the map tiles requested, to that service. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.

Official agency links and other external links take you to services with their own privacy practices. Our collectors fetch agency reports on our server; browsing a stored incident does not itself trigger a request from your browser to that agency’s feed.

Cookies and planned Google Analytics

The current public site does not include a Google Analytics tag or advertising scripts. Administrative sign-in uses essential authentication and security cookies; public browsing does not require an administrative account.

We plan to use Google Analytics to understand aggregate site use. Google explains that its default implementation measures usage and session statistics, approximate location, and browser and device information, and can use a first-party cookie to distinguish visits. See Google Analytics data collection and Google’s privacy policy.

Analytics is not enabled by this page. Before enabling it, we will update this notice to describe the actual configuration, retention settings and available choices. The site does not currently display advertising.

Emails and correction requests

If you email us, we receive your email address, message and any attachments you choose to send. We use them to respond, investigate reported issues and manage the conversation. Contact links open your email application; this website does not host an enquiry submission form.

There is no fixed retention period for contact emails at present. Messages may remain in the mailbox and its backups. You can ask us to delete a conversation using the contact address above; we will review the request and explain any information we need to keep. Avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information.

Published incident records

We store publisher-provided incident information, collection history and captured revisions to operate the service and explain observed changes. Historical records may remain after disappearing from a current feed. If you believe a displayed record contains personal information that should be reviewed, contact us with the page URL and a short explanation.

Your choices and updates

You can control cookies through your browser, avoid loading interactive maps by disabling JavaScript, and choose whether to follow external links or send us an email. Browser controls may affect how parts of the site work.

For access, correction or deletion enquiries about information you have provided to us, email [email protected]. We may ask for enough information to identify the relevant conversation or record. We update this page when our practices change; the date above identifies this version.
